MCS System Update Newsletter

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles is excited to announce the launch of MC-1, our new web-based system for IRP (International Registration Plan), IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement), and Trip/Fuel Permitting services. Starting May 15, 2025, motor carriers and reporting services will be able to complete transactions and filings online — without the need to mail paperwork or visit our office.  Note:  Title work and payment will still be required to be mailed.

This FAQ covers common questions about the transition and what you can expect.

1. What is MC-1?

MC-1 is Nebraska DMV’s new, secure, web-based portal for IFTA and IRP accounts. It replaces our 30-year-old legacy system with a modern platform that allows you to manage your carrier account online.

2. When will the new system be available?

MC-1 will be available to carriers and reporting services on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

3. How do I access MC-1?

Starting May 15, you’ll find a link to MC-1 on our website at dmv.nebraska.gov (Online Services). The system is browser based, and can be used from any computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection.

4. How do I log in for the first time?

We will send you an email with your username and a temporary password prior to launch. When you log in the first time, you’ll be prompted to create a new password.
To finish setting up your account, you’ll need:

  • Your FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number)
  • Your Carrier Number

5. Will my existing information be in the new system?

Yes, data from 2020 to the present will be migrated into MC-1.
Please note:

  • Unpaid bills will need to be manually entered into the new system, which may result in different balances.
  • Older records (prior to 2020) will not be available in MC-1.

6. What happens to the legacy system?

The legacy system will stop being updated after Thursday, May 8. It will remain available internally to DMV staff for reference.

7. What new features will MC-1 provide?

  • Online filing of IFTA returns
  • Ability to submit IRP supplements
  • Full account management from any smart device
  • Secure access with personalized logins
  • Real-time processing and improved accuracy

8. Who do I contact if I need help?

We’re here to support you:

  • Call us directly at the Motor Carrier Services office at 402 471 4435 between 8:00 and 5:00 CDT
  • In the new system, use the new chat feature to talk with a representative

9. What if I don’t receive my login email?

If you haven’t received your login credentials by May 15, please call our office and we’ll assist you in getting access.

10. Is there anything I should do to prepare?

Yes – we recommend:

  • Ensuring we have an up-to-date email address on file
  • Reviewing and pay any outstanding account balances
  • Watch for our instructional materials closer to launch
